Declutter is a simple move that will impact how your home shows and how fast your home sells. Decluttering will give buyers less distraction and help them imagine what it would be like to live in the home. If a buyer can’t see themselves living there, then they won’t be making an offer. I have walked thousands of homes with buyers and although your decor may be pretty, it is definitely distracting. Buyers spend more time checking our your decor than actually looking at the space of the home. I have never had a buyer offer on a home that has had distracting decor, no matter how nice it was.

With all the family photos taken down, extra furniture and decor removed, and small knick-knacks removed, the home will look much larger. Space is generally high on a buyers list of must haves.

Having a well organized and clean home gives the perception of value. It let’s buyers know you have taken pride in taking care of the property. A clean and organized home will also allow the home to showcase beautifully through photos and video. Most buyers conduct their home search online prior to actually viewing a home in person. First Impressions matter. Make sure you also give the same effort in making the exterior match the interior.

Don’t even think about cramming those items into closets or storage spaces. Buyers are always looking for lots of storage space in a home. If you hide all those knick-knacks in the closets, they are unable to see how much storage your home really has!

Don’t be afraid to ask your Realtor their thoughts on what should be removed, moved or cleaned. Remember, they are working with buyers every single day. They have their hand on the pulse of what buyers are looking for and want. They are not suggesting anything to make things harder. In fact, they are trying to guide you into a position to maximize what you sell your home for. Watch this quick video for more explanation.
